Timezone & Time Format
Configure how times and dates are displayed throughout Tradavity. These settings are in Settings > Preferences.
Timezone
All timestamps in Tradavity are stored in UTC and converted to your selected timezone for display.
Setting Your Timezone
- Go to Settings > Preferences
- Find the Timezone section
- Select your timezone from the dropdown
- Changes save automatically
Timezones are grouped by region (Africa, America, Asia, Europe, Pacific, etc.) for easy navigation.
What Changes
Your timezone affects how times are displayed for:
- Trade entry and exit times
- Trade dates in the journal
- Balance and activity history
- Account creation dates
- Session timestamps
All data is stored in UTC. Your timezone only affects how times are displayed to you. If you change timezones, your trade times will appear to shift but the actual recorded time remains the same.
Time Format
Choose between 12-hour and 24-hour time display.
Setting Time Format
- Go to Settings > Preferences
- Find the Time Format section
- Select your preferred format
- Changes save automatically
Format Options
| Format | Example |
|---|---|
| 12-hour | 2:30 PM |
| 24-hour | 14:30 |
Default Currency
Set your preferred currency for new trading accounts:
- Go to Settings > Preferences
- Find the Default Currency section
- Select your currency (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.)
This currency is pre-selected when creating new trading accounts. You can override it for individual accounts.
Broker Export Timezones
When importing trades via CSV, the timestamps in your broker's export file may be in a different timezone than your personal setting. The Broker Timezone feature ensures your trade times are recorded accurately.
Why Broker Timezone Matters
Different brokers export trade data in different timezones:
- TopStepX, Tradovate, NinjaTrader - Typically use US Central Time (Chicago)
- MetaTrader 4/5 - Often use Eastern European Time (EET/Athens)
- TradingView - Uses your local browser timezone or UTC
If the broker timezone is set incorrectly, your trade entry and exit times will be shifted. A trade you took at 9:30 AM might show as 2:30 PM or 7:30 AM.
The Timezone Prompt
When you import from a broker for the first time, Tradavity shows a prompt asking you to confirm the export timezone. The prompt shows:
- Export Timezone - Select the timezone your broker uses in their CSV export
- Recommended timezone - Based on what we know about each broker
- Don't ask again - Save your choice and skip this prompt for future imports
Finding the Correct Broker Timezone
To determine the correct timezone for your broker's export:
- Open your broker platform and look at a recent trade
- Note the exact time shown (e.g., 9:30:15 AM)
- Open your exported CSV file and find the same trade
- Compare the time in the CSV to what your broker shows
- If they match, the export uses your broker's display timezone
TopStepX / Tradovate / NinjaTrader: US Central (Chicago)
MetaTrader 4/5: Eastern Europe (Athens/EET)
TradingView: UTC or your local timezone
Managing Broker Timezones
You can view and change broker timezone settings in your preferences:
- Go to Settings > Preferences
- Open the Broker Import Timezones section
- Select the correct timezone for each broker from the dropdown
- Changes save automatically
Each broker has a dropdown showing common timezones with the recommended default marked.
Disabling Timezone Prompts
If you want to stop seeing timezone prompts when importing:
- Go to Settings > Preferences
- Open the Behavior Settings section
- Enable Don't show broker timezone prompts
You can still configure broker timezones in the Broker Import Timezones section even with prompts disabled.
Fixing Wrong Trade Times
If your imported trades show the wrong times:
- Go to Settings > Preferences and open Broker Import Timezones
- Find the broker and select the correct timezone
- Delete the incorrectly imported trades from your journal
- Re-import the CSV file
Tips
- Match your broker - Set your timezone to match your trading platform for consistency
- Consider your market - If you trade US markets, US timezones make session times clearer
- 24-hour for clarity - Avoids AM/PM confusion, especially around market open/close
- Check broker timezone on first import - Taking a moment to verify saves fixing trades later
